This month, Sarasota County officially began its latest Venice Beach Renourishment Project, pumping fresh sand from approximately 11 miles offshore directly onto the beach through a temporary pipeline. The project is expected to continue through the end of September, helping restore sections of the shoreline that have gradually eroded from storms, tides, and natural coastal processes.
The process is both fascinating and highly effective. A specialized dredging vessel collects sand from a designated offshore borrow area before sending it through an underwater and onshore pipeline directly onto Venice Beach.
