The Sarasota area continues to gain national attention, and this time it is being recognized for something that could have a major impact on the future of our entire region. The North Port, Bradenton and Sarasota metropolitan area has been ranked as one of the fastest growing job markets in the United States.

According to LinkedIn's 2026 Cities on the Rise list, the North Port, Bradenton and Sarasota metropolitan area ranked No. 4 in the country. The list highlights metropolitan areas experiencing strong momentum in hiring, job opportunities and the arrival of new professional talent.

The Sarasota area ranked behind only Augusta, Georgia, Richmond, Virginia and Reno, Nevada. It was also one of just two Florida metropolitan areas to make the top 25, with Pensacola coming in at No. 7.

This recognition is another sign of how quickly Southwest Florida continues to evolve.

LinkedIn based its rankings on data collected between March 2024 and February 2026. The company looked at several important factors, including growth in hiring, the number of job postings and the movement of professionals into different metropolitan areas.

To qualify for the list, a metropolitan area had to show above average growth in these areas while also attracting more LinkedIn members than it lost to other regions.

Why Is the Sarasota Area Growing So Quickly?

The answer comes down to a combination of population growth, new development, business expansion and the lifestyle that continues to attract people from across the country.

For years, people have been moving to the Sarasota area to enjoy the beautiful Gulf Coast, warm weather and relaxed lifestyle. In recent years, that migration has expanded beyond traditional retirees.

Remote workers, young professionals, families and people relocating from the Midwest and other parts of the country are increasingly choosing the North Port, Bradenton and Sarasota area as a place to live and work.

The growth that began accelerating during the pandemic has continued, and the region is now seeing significant investment in housing, health care, commercial development and infrastructure.

Large planned communities are playing an important role in that growth. Wellen Park in the southern part of Sarasota County continues to expand, bringing new neighborhoods, businesses, entertainment and employment opportunities to the area.

Major investments in health care are also helping create jobs while supporting the needs of the region's growing population. LinkedIn specifically pointed to a $507 million hospital campus as one of the significant investments contributing to the area's momentum.

As more people move to the region, the need for additional housing, medical services, schools, retail businesses and other essential services continues to grow. That creates a cycle of economic activity that can lead to even more job opportunities throughout the community.

The Industries Leading the Way

Several industries are currently helping drive employment in the Sarasota area.

Real estate continues to be one of the region's most active fields. With continued population growth and development, there is an ongoing need for professionals involved in residential and commercial real estate, property management, construction and related services.

Hospitals and health care are also among the area's leading industries for hiring. As the population grows, so does the demand for doctors, nurses, technicians, administrative professionals and countless other workers who help keep the health care system running.

Technology and internet related careers are another growing part of the local job market. The increasing number of remote workers moving to the region has helped demonstrate that Sarasota does not have to be limited to traditional office based industries.

Many professionals can now choose where they want to live while continuing to work for companies located elsewhere. For many, the Sarasota area offers an attractive combination of career flexibility and quality of life.

Major Employers Continue to Shape the Local Economy

Some of the largest employers in the region also continue to provide thousands of jobs.

Sarasota Memorial Healthcare System remains one of the area's most significant employers and plays a major role in the local economy. The health care system continues to grow alongside the community it serves.

Sarasota County Schools is another major employer, supporting not only students and families but also a large workforce of teachers, administrators and support staff.

Sarasota County government also employs a significant number of local residents in a wide variety of departments and services that help support the growing community.

Together, these organizations represent the importance of health care, education and public services to the region's economic foundation.

Growth Brings Both Opportunity and Challenges

The ranking is certainly exciting news for the Sarasota area, but rapid growth also brings challenges that communities will need to continue addressing.

Housing affordability remains an important conversation throughout Southwest Florida. According to the LinkedIn ranking, the median income in the Sarasota area is $84,050, while the average home listing price was reported at $978,680.

As more people move to the area and demand for housing continues, creating opportunities for workers and families to find suitable places to live will remain an important part of the region's future.

Transportation, infrastructure, schools and health care services will also need to continue expanding to keep pace with population growth.

A Region on the Rise

Despite the challenges that often come with rapid growth, the No. 4 ranking highlights just how much momentum the North Port, Bradenton and Sarasota area currently has.

The region is no longer simply known as a beautiful place to visit or retire. It is becoming an increasingly attractive destination for professionals, families, entrepreneurs and businesses looking for new opportunities.

With major developments underway, expanding health care facilities, new businesses opening and more people choosing to call Southwest Florida home, the future of the Sarasota area continues to look incredibly active.

For those who already live here, the changes happening throughout the region are easy to see. New communities are being built, businesses are expanding and employment opportunities are continuing to grow.

Being recognized as one of the fastest growing job markets in the country is another reminder that the North Port, Bradenton and Sarasota area is in the middle of an exciting period of transformation. As the region continues to attract new talent and investment, it will be interesting to see just how much more growth lies ahead.
