Alright, my fellow Floridians, time to put down the coffee (just kidding, never put down the coffee) and listen up because the Florida Hometown Heroes Housing Program is making its grand 2025 comeback, and it is packing some serious perks for our local legends.
This program is all about helping our everyday heroes, the people who keep our communities running, safe, and thriving, actually live in the neighborhoods they serve. Translation: it is designed to make buying your primary residence far more affordable by helping with your down payment and closing costs, plus offering a lower mortgage interest rate.
And yes, this could include you.
Who Qualifies
If you are thinking, “Maybe this is for me,” here is the deal.
You must be working full-time for a Florida-based employer. Eligible occupations include:

Health care workers such as doctors, nurses, and therapists

School staff including teachers, administrators, and bus drivers

First responders including police, firefighters, and EMTs

Public safety or court employees
-
Child care workers
-
Members of the U.S. military, Coast Guard, National Guard, reserves, or veterans working full-time in Florida

How Much Help Are We Talking
Borrowers can receive up to 5% of their total first mortgage loan amount. That is a maximum of $35,000 and a minimum of $10,000 to put toward your down payment and closing costs.
This comes in the form of a 0% interest, non-amortizing, 30-year deferred second mortgage. In other words:

You do not make payments on it while you live in your home.

It becomes due when you sell, refinance, transfer the deed, or move out.

It is not forgivable, so think of it as a long-term sidekick.
